Job Opportunity at West Highland Museum

We are seeking a passionate and driven Community Outreach Officer to join our team at the West Highland Museum in Fort William. As Community Outreach Officer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that engage the local community and raise awareness of the museum’s collections and exhibitions. 

Job title: Community Outreach Officer

Salary: £8,850 (£26,500 pro rata)

Location: Fort William with option for some home working

Hours: 14 hours per week

Contract:  10 months

Closing date: 14 June

Interviews:  Week Commencing 26 June

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and implement recruitment schemes to expand the museum’s volunteer base.
  • Develop and implement outreach initiatives that engage with the local community, community groups, and other organisations. To reach out to “hard to reach” and disadvantaged groups in our community.
  • Plan and organise events, workshops, and other activities that promote the museum’s collections and exhibitions, liaising with museum staff/volunteers working on other community led projects at the museum in order to introduce a cohesive learning approach
  • Maintain relationships with local partners, stakeholders, and community groups to ensure ongoing engagement and support for the museum.
  • Create marketing materials and manage social media accounts to promote museum events and activities and build participation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of outreach initiatives, and provide regular reports to museum management.

 

Requirements:

  • Enthusiastic and organised with excellent communication skills
  • Have a great understanding of how to use social media but recognise that nothing beats personal contact
  • Have demonstrable experience in a similar role.
  • Be self-motivated and computer literate.
