Museum Awarded Lottery Funding for Coronation Community Project

West Highland Museum has been awarded £5,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund to deliver an exhibition at the museum this summer focusing on Royal visits to Lochaber.  The “Coronations, Commemorations and Celebrations” exhibition will look at past royal visits to Lochaber and display objects, photographs and film from their collection associated with royal celebrations of the past.  Objects such commemorative coins, mugs and the hard hat worn by Princess Margaret’s when she visited the Wiggins Teape Pulp Mill will be displayed. The museum is looking to involve the community with the project and would like to hear from anyone who can remember past royal visits, or can loan the museum photographs and objects associated with royal visits, past royal coronations, weddings and other celebrations.

Curator Manager, Vanessa Martin said “we would like to thank lottery players for helping making this project possible.  Over the coming months we will be hosting this exhibition at the museum looking at how local people have responded to royal visits and celebratory events.  We are very grateful to National Lottery for funding this project which will enable us to reach out to engage with our local community and host events at the museum over the coming months.”

Throughout the year we will be hosting events at the museum and reaching out to local schools to participate in crafting activities such as creating bunting for the exhibition space. If you would like to get involved with the project or join our team of award-winning volunteers, please email info@westhighlandmuseum.org.uk or call 01397 702169.

Remember we are a free to enter museum, with donations welcome.
