The West Highland Museum is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Community Learning and Engagement Officer to take the lead on learning, engagement, and events activities at the museum. The person will be responsible for the development and planning of the programme ensuring it is creative, inclusive and reaches diverse audiences. The post holder will help us reconnect with our community post pandemic and include the creation of education, events and outreach programmes. Travel and accommodation costs can be reimbursed for any successful candidate living outside the Fort William area. This year is the museum’s 100th anniversary and we are looking for an Events Co-ordinator to organise a programme of events to run throughout the year. The person will be responsible for the creation and delivery of events during the summer months and scheduling of events for later in the year.

Salary: £14,000 (+ travel & accommodation where appropriate)
Location: Fort William with option for some home working
Hours: 21 hrs per week
Contract: 10-month contract (1 June 2022 – 31 March 2023)

- Enthusiastic and organised with excellent communication skills
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role.
- Self-motivated and computer literate.
Job Description:
- Developing a learning and community engagement strategy for the museum.
- To programme a range of activities and events ensuring the programme is creative, inclusive and reaches our diverse audiences.
- Liaising with local schools to create learning sessions that will meet the needs of their students and complement the Curriculum for Excellence.
- Developing an outreach programme to reach out to vulnerable adults.
- Delivering active learning sessions with schools and community groups.
- Recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to implement the community learning and engagement programme.
- Ensuring that systems are in place so that volunteers are able to deliver the programme independently once the funding period has ended.
- Liaising with museum staff/volunteers working on other community led projects at the museum in order to introduce a cohesive learning approach.
- Liaising with other organisations on partnership events where appropriate.
- Utilising existing digital resources to create meaningful in-gallery and outreach experiences.
- Co-ordinating the development of handling boxes to be used for education and outreach.
- Ensure activities are recorded and evaluated.
